Education is constantly put on the back burner both in Missouri and the country as a whole. According to Missouri Net, Missouri ranks No. 46 in the U.S. regarding state funding of higher education per capita across fiscal years 2018-2020. Elementary and secondary schools have recently suffered massive cuts in both federal and state funding. We need to prioritize education and the education of our children by choosing our elected officials wisely. Missouri’s 6th needs Gena Ross as our representative to make education a priority. From the beginning of her congressional race, Ross has always made education a pillar of her campaign. She, herself, is a very educated woman who understands the importance of equal and accessible education for all. Ross's Background in Education“Ross has an earned PhD in Public Policy & Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Administration both obtained from Walden University in Minneapolis, MN. In addition, she has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from American Intercontinental University, Schaumburg, IL and an Associates in Urban Ministries from North Central University in Minneapolis, MN. Ross is an Assistant Professor of Business at Kansas City Kansas Community College and an Adjunct Instructor at Baker University- School of Professional Graduate Studies.” - Ross for U.S. Congress Ross is currently an assistant professor at a community college in Missouri. She is also a dues-paying member of the Missouri National Education Association. This association is an advocate for Missouri public education and its faculty members. As an educator, Ross understands the importance of education and adequate funding. She believes public schools need higher funding from the government. Ross also supports the development of a Universal Pre-K option. This option would make Pre-Kindergarten an available option for all students regardless of socioeconomic status. According to this study, this extra year of schooling is so important because when children arrive at kindergarten without a solid foundation of skills, they are likely to fall behind their classmates, and with each year it will become harder to catch up. Children who can not afford pre-school education fall behind their classmates only creating a deeper socioeconomic disadvantage. All children deserve an equal opportunity to learn and grow. Gena Ross would help make that happen. Missouri’s Republican Governor, Mike Parson, slashed the state’s education budget in July of 2020. According to the News Tribune, elementary and secondary schools in Missouri received $123 million less than the previous year. The children of Missouri’s 6th district do not deserve to have their education put at stake. Our schools deserve funding. The Republican party does not agree. In July, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the HEROES Act. According to the Business of Federal Technology, this bill, if passed, would give about $60 billion to schools nationwide. Representative Sam Graves voted against this bill. The Republican majority Senate and majority leader, Senator Mitch McConnell, are refusing to pass the bill. It has been sitting in the Senate for 20 weeks. The education of our youth is under attack in this country by our Republican leaders. We must vote with the future generations in mind with this upcoming election. We need to vote for people who value education, and for Missouri’s 6th district, that person is Dr. Gena Ross.
The election is one week away. Vote for your future and your children’s future in mind. Vote Gena Ross for Missouri’s 6th district. Tweet us @Ross4Congress, and tell us why affordable and equal education is important to you.
