Missouri’s 6th Congressional District is unique. It is made up of 35 counties, and spans completely across the state. According to the 2010 census, of the approximately 750,000 people in the district, 91.3% are white, 4.0% are black, and 1.2% are asian. The median household income is $49,367 (Ballotpedia). There are approximately 560,000 eligible voters in Missouri’s 6th district (US Census). The district used to be two separate districts, the 6th and the 9th. The 9th district was dissolved in 2010 when Missouri lost a congressional seat (US Census). The northern half of the 9th was absorbed and created the current 6th district. Historically, this district has swung between the Democratic and Republican parties, but this changed in recent years. Sam Graves has served the district as a Republican incumbent since 2001. His political victories over the past 19 years have been landslides. He won almost 200,000 votes in 2018, while his Democratic opponent won just 97,660 (Ballotpedia). Recent trends towards the Kansas City suburbs could make this district more competitive. We believe that Ross will could be the right candidate to help complete this shift in party. With the range of interests and regions in this district, it is more important than ever for each county to feel represented. Gena Ross has specifically stated that one of her goals is for no county to be overlooked or unheard, which makes her the necessary choice to represent this district.
